Andrew J. Pedone

Andrew J. “Andy” Pedone, 99, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at Sitrin Rehabilitation, with his loving family by his side.

Andy was born on February 19, 1925, in Utica, the son of Agostino and Mamie Randazzo Pedone and was educated in Utica schools.  He served proudly as a US Marine in WW II in the Pacific.  Andy was a recipient of the Purple Heart.  On May 29, 1948, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica, he married his “Gem” Yolanda Gigante, a loving union of 68 years until her passing on June 2, 2016. 

During his youth, Andy picked peas and beans in the fields and was a shoe shine boy.  He later worked at Harry Hymans Garage, drove trucks for Utica Carting, Fanelli’s Express, St. Johnsville Trucking and worked at Utica Radiator.  Andy was greatly honored to serve, for 29 years, as a firefighter for the City of Utica Fire Department. 

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, and was a member of the Teamsters, the Police & Fire Retirees Association and Engine 11. 

Andy especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  One of his favorite things to do, was taking home movies.  Luckily, he captured many fun times over the years which we continue to enjoy and will be able to share with generations to come.  He also loved his backyard patio and attending the Utica Firefighter Retiree functions.

He is survived by his four beloved children, Ken (Diane) Pedone of Whitesboro, Andy Pedone of Tampa, FL, Mary (Steve) Cole of Rochester and Joseph (Melissa) Pedone of Schuyler; eight adored grandchildren, Christopher (JoAnne) Pedone, Jessica (Rob) Willson, Andrew “AJ” Pedone, Matthew (Danielle) Cole, Lexi Pedone, Joe (and fiancée Kayla Robert) Pedone, Nick Pedone and Katie Pedone; and four much loved great-grandchildren, Julia, Ryan, and Jane Pedone and William Cole.  He was predeceased by his son, Augustine “AJ” Pedone; two sisters, Ida Pedone and Angela Pedone Longo; two brothers, Santo Pedone and Augustine Pedone; and his daughter-in-law, Michele Pedone. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Thursday March 21, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Court at York Streets, Utica.
