Betty J. Bennett
Date of Passing: March 1st, 2017leave a condolence
Miss Betty J. Bennett, of New Hartford, entered into eternal rest on Ash Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare after a brief illness. As she had been throughout her life, she was blessed with the company of many dear and attentive friends and surrounded by prayers in her final days. Although she was born legally blind in both eyes, she did not allow her sight limitations to hinder her from accomplishing many personal goals. Betty had a strong work ethic, and could be relied on to come to work at Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CAB-VI) in her smock, ready, willing and able to complete the day's assignments. During her career, she earned several recognitions for job achievements. She liked to listen to country music, and especially treasured tuning in daily to EWTN to share prayers and Mass. Betty appreciated being active in her community, and enjoyed giving her friends their own personal nicknames. One of Betty's past times was hand crafting rugs made of scrap material for her friends. Consistent with her humble nature, Betty never kept a rug for herself, and was working on one for her friend "Tilly" at the time of her passing. Betty was born on March 20, 1929, in Gloversville to James Enright and Mabel Bombard Bennett, and was the step-daughter of Clayton Bennett. By age 4 she transitioned to living in a variety of OPWDD residences, including Rome Developmental Center, CNYDSO and Catholic Charities residences and family care homes. Since August, 2007, she has enjoyed living at Gan Kavod's Maple house, where she had many friends among the residents and staff. She shared special friendships with Marty, Debbie and Kathy from CAB-VI, and also had many friends at the ARC Oneida-Lewis North Side Senior Center. The Maple house also wishes to recognize the personalized attention Betty received from Faxton-St. Luke's ICU staff and spiritual support services. Friends are welcome to join in her Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday at 12:30 pm at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Utica. Private interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, next to her friends Emma and Mary Blanchard. Arrangements are with Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford.
