Elsie R. "Ellie" Pollicove, 73, of New Hartford, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Sitrin Health Care Center, with her children by her side. She was born July 27, 1939, in Utica, the daughter of the late James A. and Elsie B. Wethje Jones. She was a graduate of Waterville Central School, Class of 1956, St. Luke's Memorial School of Nursing and Utica College. On November 22, 1961, in Waterville, she married Allan Pollicove, a loving union of 44 years until his passing on January 25, 2006. Ellie was a Registered Nurse and was first employed in the emergency department at St. Luke's Hospital. Later she became a valued and dedicated employee of the Sitrin Health Care Center for over 20 years, working in many capacities including nursing, education, director of nursing, reimbursement coordinator and finally as admission coordinator, retiring in 2002. Mrs. Pollicove was an active member of Temple Emanu-El, served on its Board of Directors and served on the Board of Directors of the Sitrin Health Care Center. She was also a former board member of Hospice & Palliative Care. Ellie was a very giving and kind woman who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was a wonderful wife, mother and sister and was an adoring grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, playing practical jokes, scrabble, mah-jong and trying to keep up with her grandchildrens activities. Ellie will be deeply missed. She is survived by three children, Marc Pollicove of New Hartford, Kim Stedman and John A. Gaetano of Clinton and Kerri and Andrew Gale of Clinton; a sister, Beverly and Gene Buell of Tucson, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Gerald Kelberman of Longwood, FL and Phyllis Raimone of Cape Coral, FL; six grandchildren, Allison Stedman, Kyle and Kory Pollicove, and Nathan, Nicholas and Jessica Gale; a great granddaughter, Kelsey Van Steenburg; two step grandchildren, Shannon and Joseph Gaetano; special in-laws, Mike Nozik, Helen Pollicove and Kit Pollicove; and many nieces and nephews, especially Midge Jaquays. She was predeceased by three sisters, Stella Mazur, Shirley Simpson and Jennie Jaquays; and three brothers, Tom, Jim and Leslie Jones. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 am from Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica, with Rabbi Cassi Kail officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9:30-11 am, prior to the service. Shiva will be observed Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Kim's home, 1038 Wildflower Way, Clinton. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Sitrin Health Care Center for all their wonderful care and compassion, especially Dr. Thomas John and Dr. Cenk Pekis. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.

Dear family, My deepest sympathy to you all, may the Lords arms embrace you and keep you close to his heart. My mother was a cousin to your beloved mother, my mother was Betty Dewhurst Sherman. Elsie, Beverly and Shirley came to my home in Clayville and we exchanged family history. I am so grateful for the time that I had with these wornderful ladies. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Elsie was a caring, loving person who enjoyed life, soon she will be able to do the same things she enjoyed here on earth in paradise. God promises "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28,29)
Elsie was my Aunt and we all loved her very much. She was a wonderful lady, full of love and laughter. All of our family will miss her. Her example of caring for others is an example for all of us.
Kim and John, Birdie and I will miss Elsie. It was great and wonderful to get reaquainted with her at all the family functions. She was a beatuiful lady.

I am just one of Elsie's many high school (WCS) friends who will miss her. Will especially miss her at our occasional luncheons in Waterville/Sangerfield. Many fond memories of our school days at Waterville Central. Condolences to all her family.

What a fine, warm, and gracious lady! I miss the weekly calls to her and Allan with the Football Fury winners. She would always ask if SHE had won! Well, I think her life was a HUGE WIN for us all.
