Date of Passing: March 30th, 2010leave a condolence read condolences
Edward F. Roberts, 36, of New Hartford, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, after losing his battle with alcoholism. Edward was born on August 1, 1973, the son of Susan and the late Robert Roberts. Edward is survived by his twin sister, Alberta Roberts and fiance, Matti Leetmaa, and his brother, Robert M. Roberts, both of Utica; his foster parent, Sharon Sylvester, New Hartford; and his aunt, Dottie Gokey, Clinton. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins; a niece and a nephew; and his feline companion, Molly. Edward was predeceased by his sister, Kelly, and foster parent, Rich Sylvester. Edward was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. We will all miss his laugh and love of a good prank. Edward had a special bond with his brother and sister and always ended each conversation with "I Love You". He also valued and enjoyed his many friendships. Edward may have left our world of struggle, but he has found his new home where his soul may now rest in peace, and he now has a new audience to entertain with his charisma and charm. There will be no calling hours. Friends and family are invited to join us to celebrate Edward's life on Friday, April 2, 2010, from 1-3 p.m. at the Gokey residence at 60 Utica St., Clinton. Arrangements are under the guidance of Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford.
Thank you all for the kind words. Eddie meant the world to his brother Robbie and I. Eddie wanted all to know that he wrote the first sentence of his obituary. He wanted all to know he died of alcoholism. He wrote that, in hopes that people would learn. Alcoholism deaths are not acknowledged, "so and so died unexpectedly at 36." Eddie's hopes were to make the disease known. Good for him!
I love and miss him so much.

Thinking of you at this difficult time. I would like to share a verse with you that was given to me when my dad passed away and gives me much comfort.
"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon to let us know they are happy."
We are both so sorry for your loss. Our prayers go out to all of Ed's family, especially Bert and Rob. You guys take care of yourselves.

I never knew of Edward until I read his obituary, but I'm very sorry for your loss. This is perhaps the first time I've seen his particular cause of death acknowledged in an obituary. I'm sure it's not an uncommon cause of death, but the closest I've ever seen to a reference to alcoholism in an obituary is to say that the deceased was "a friend of Bill W." (a member of AA). Whether it was Edward's choice or the family's to make such a frank statement, hopefully it will help to spare others from the loss of someone who sounds like such a fine fellow from such an untimely passing. Again, my condolences to all.
Alberta, I am thinking of you and have you in my prayers. I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am.
With love and sympathy, Paula
