Mr. Peter Smolinsky, 94, entered into eternal life, unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, with his loving daughter and son-in-law at his side. He was born July 5, 1914, in Ambridge, PA, the son of the late John and Anna Nasienik Smolinsky, and moved to the Utica area with his family in 1921. Peter attended Utica Free Academy and on August 8, 1967, he married Agnes Thomas, who predeceased him on January 12, 2001. Peter was an army veteran of World War II and was extremely proud of having served his country and reiterated that fact many times to his family. At one time Peter owned and operated his own Hotpoint sales and repair store in North Utica. He retired from his position as an electrical engineer from Univac in 1977. Peter was of the Ukranian Orthodox faith and was a member of St. Peter & Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church in Utica. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #229, the John A. LaPolla VFW Post #8728, and the PLAV. Peter is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in law, Agnes and David Knox, Utica; his stepson, Edward Cheseboro, Deerfield; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Vivian Smolinsky, Marcy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, William, Frank, Michael and John; and two sisters, Mary and Helen. Peter's full military funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 9:45 a.m. from the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter & Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church, with Rev Ivan Semko, officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter & Paul Ukranian Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Monday, April 20, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
