Catherine (Kay) Marchio, of Utica, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at her home, with her loving family by her side. She was born March 10, 1924, in Utica, the daughter of the late James and Margaret Spiridiglozzi Mariani and was educated in Utica schools. On November 23, 1946, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica, she married Frank A. Marchio. He passed away February 27, 1985. Durring WW II, Kay worked at the American Emblem Company in Utica, making merit badges and military bars for captains and lieutenants. For over 30 years, she later made a career working at Bev's in downtown Utica. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. Catherine was a kind and generous person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She spent many wonderful summers at her camp in Old Forge that she built alongside her husband and sons. She is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Francis A. and Regina Marchio and Anita Marchio, all of New Hartford; six grandchildren, Mary Catherine and David Christopher of New Hartford, Francis Marchio of New Hartford, Sam and Shana Marchio of Washington, DC, Francesca Marchio of Clinton, Cara Marchio of Saratoga Springs and Michael Marchio of New Hartford; two great granddaughters, Lily and Grace Christopher, both of New Hartford; two sisters, Johann Pugliese of New Hartford and Rosemary Assaro of Utica; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Thomas and Marilyn Mariani of Frankfort, Antoinette Sacco of Hamilton and Rose Reesh of Utica; several nieces, nephews, cousins and God children; and special people in her life, Lucy Simone, Pauline Distefano and Fannie Spatuzzi. She was predeceased by two sons, Michael Marchio in 1953 and Samuel J. Marchio in 2004; a brother, Andrew Mariani; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Utica. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In keeping with Catherine's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. and the nurses in the ICU at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, for all their wonderful care and compassion. Funeral arrangements are with the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.
