George F. Nassar, 93, of New Hartford and Clinton passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016. He was born October 1, 1922, in Utica, the son of the late Louis and Ethel Nahssen Nassar. He was educated in Utica schools and was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce. George proudly served his country as a US Army soldier during WW II. For many years, Mr. Nassar owned and operated The Food Center in New Hartford, relocating the business to Floyd in 1967. It has been said, that if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life. That's the way dad considered his work. He was very lucky to be able to work with his best friend, his brother Joseph Nassar. He truly enjoyed all of his customers throughout the years, and many became long lasting friends. He looked forward to each morning, savoring a cup of coffee and solving all the world's problems with the "Coffee Club". Family was very important to him. He is survived by three children, George and Bea Nassar of Sauquoit, Jill Holland of Utica and Lisa and Robert Duncanson of Manlius; his grandchildren, Nicole and Andrew Miller, Jeffrey Nassar, Sabrina and Kristina Holland and Jack, Will and Sam Duncanson; and his great grandson Gavin Miller. He is also survived by his loving sister, Rose Nassar of Utica; and his devoted nieces and nephews, Richard & Anne Nassar, Thomas & Lynn Kassouf, Mary Ethel & David Vander Els and Patti Nassar. He was formerly united in marriage to Dorothy Papale Nassar. George was predeceased by a brother and sister in law, Joseph and Mary Nassar; and two sisters and a brother in law, Minnie Nassar and Alice and Thomas Kassouf. Calling hours will be held Thursday morning, July 7th from 9:30 to 11:00 at the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 66 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the Floyd Fire Department. The family would like to thank the staffs at Brookdale Senior Living and the Lutheran Care Valleycrest Unit, for their kindness and care over the last 13 years. The family also wishes to thank his sister, Rose, for her many acts of kindness and love over the years.

With deepest respect and an apology as we just learned today of Georgr Seniors passing. George was the most amazing man and character I have ever met in my 69+ years on God's Earth. He was filled with the love of life and for the people he met while passing through it. There many a family that owe their thanks to Georges rare policy of letting them "Run a Tab" for their groceries until their payday. You'll never find that in any of the "Mega Stores" of today,or most stores of the last 60 years . He should be recognized by the Town of Floyd, and all the surrounding comunities,as a true Home Town Hero .The World was a better and kinder place for having George in it and he will remain in the minds of many regardless of his passing. Goodbye George, and Rest in Peace with the knowledge that you truely made your mark on this world in your own lifetime. And rest easy knowing that your son George Jr. is continueing running your store in the standard and tradition you set. God Love and Keep You and Those You Left Behind,Bob & Linda Phillips.
