In her memory kindly consider the Utica Curling Club or the American Red Cross.

Renate Swiercz, 86, of New Hartford, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 at her home, with her son Michael by her side. She was born June 23, 1928, in Duesseldorf, Germany, the daughter of the late Fritz and Anne Hinte and received her education in Germany. She met her husband Michael V. Swiercz of Buffalo, a civilian USAF employee, while working in her parent's hotel in Traben-Trarbach an der Mossel, Germany. They were married in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1959. Their son Michael was born in 1961. She was a lifetime member of the Deutschen Teckelklub and a professional show handler, judge, and breeder of Dachshunds, citing numerous awards throughout Germany and Europe. In 1976, her family settled in New Hartford. She continued her career as a show handler and breeder until the passing of her husband in 1985. Thereafter, she began volunteering for and contributing to various non-profit organizations including Disabled American Veterans, American Lung Association, Stevens-Swan Humane Society, and the American Red Cross. At the young age of 62, she became a member of the Utica Curling Club and was an avid curler and active volunteer for over 20 years. Her family and friends remember her as a deeply devoted wife and mother; a hard working and meticulous woman; and, always willing to put others' needs ahead of her own. There was never a problem too big or a tale too sad for her not to put her best efforts forward to help friends and family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Heather Swiercz of New Hartford; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Per the families wishes there will be no public services or calling hours with private interment in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford

Mike Barb and I enjoyed knowing Renate so much. Barb was amazed how much she was able to do as a volunteer. She can pass on some of those stores when she sees you

I so enjoyed working with Renate during my years at the Utica Red Cross. She was a tireless worker and a good friend. I shall miss her.
