Annalee Kowalsky Kamin, 92, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, peacefully at the Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL, with her family at her side. She was born in Utica on August 31, 1921, the daughter of Fannie (Horwitz) Kowalsky and Herman B. Kowalsky. She graduated from UFA and the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing. In 1942, she became a War Nurse taking care of the wounded from The North African Campaign, Operation Torch. In 1945 in Utica, she married Bernard S. Kamin. She assisted him at their Jewelry store, Gary Jewelers. Annalee also continued her nursing career at Faxton Hospital and then as an IV Therapist at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center. She worked until the late 70's after teaching hundreds of student nurses and taking care of thousands of patients. Annalee was a very cheritable person. She was a member of Temple Beth-El, it's Sisterhood and was a life-long member of Hadassah. She was a volunteer at Meals on Wheels, The Sitrin Home and at a free clinic which assisted those less fortunate than herself. Annalee is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Audrey (Tanton) Kamin, of Palm Harbor, FL; three granddaughters, Elise Kamin (Anthony) Wiley and Bailey Kamin Andersen, of Land-O-Lakes, FL and Misty Kamin of Chattanooga, TN. She was predeceased by two sons, Baby Boy Kamin in 1948, and Ethan Kamin in 1979. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Grayson and Piper Aceto, Ethan Hixson and Renner Andersen; and her three special nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Shirley (Alvin) Powdermaker; and her brother, Arthur. She also leaves two very dear friends, Margaret Stone, and Rita Reiser, her friend of 83 years. Services for Annalee will be at Noon on Sunday, September 7th at Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro. Shiva will be observed with the family on Sunday from 1-4 pm at the Holiday Inn, 1777 Burrstone Road, New Hartford. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.

I was sorry to read of your Mother's passing. I worked with her at St. Luke-Memorial Hospital in Utica. She was a lovely of the original great crew on second floor with Doris Sansoucy. We shared a love of strawberries and sour cream. I so enjoyed her.
