On Saturday, April 12, 2014, Kevin Marc Gordon, 62, of New Hartford set sail after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. Kevin was born on February 13, 1952, in Utica, the son of Vida Gordon. He graduated from UFA and joined the Army. Upon his return, Kevin went back to school at MVCC and received an associate degree in psychology. On August 18, 1979, Kevin married Jackie Asaro, a union of 34 years. He retired from Centro as a diesel mechanic after 32 years and then worked for Birnie Bus Service in Utica. Kevin was an avid boater. His boat was his hobby and he spent many happy hours working and playing on it. Kevin is survived by his wife and first mate, Jackie, his mother, Vida (New York Mills); his children and ship crew, Kevin (Colorado), Christopher (Utica), David (New Hartford) and Karen (Norwich); brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Susie Gordon, (AL), Brian and Carrie Gordon (Ilion), Danny and Natalie Gordon (CA); sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Dan Wisnoski, (Utica). He is also survived by cherished grandchildren, Amelia, Michael, Kevin and Eric, many nieces and nephews, neighbor and good friend, Eileen Sue O'Donnell, New Hartford and walking partner, Jack Ryan, New Hartford. There will be no services as Kevin will not be anchoring his boat locally. Funeral arrangements are with Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd, Utica/New Hartford.

To Kevin's family, Please know we deeply miss Kevin. To see him everyday gave us all strength. He was a wonderful man. He was a true Hero to many that new him. We were all blessed to have worked with him and to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Your friends at Birnie Bus Service Inc.

My dad was the most unselfish person I ever met. He worked hard everyday so that the people he loved could have what they needed. If heaven is short a few dads, my father will be there without hesitation. I can't wait to reunite with him down the road. I will forever try to follow in his footsteps.
Dave Gordon

Kevin reintroduced himself to me when we worked at Kaufman's. We went to grade school together at Bagg School. Kevin went out of his way to help me a couple of times. We went to "quit smoking" together. He was just the greatest friend. I am saddened by his passing. God Bless.

I enjoyed working with Kevin at Kaufmann's, his sense of humor and witt always made me laugh. He was also a great person to talk to, offering his own crazy stories about life to make us smile. I will miss catching up with him whenever I ran into him out on walks around the village.

Kevin is our brother and Dan and I will miss just little things like stopping for a visit on our evening walks when passing by or just seeing him riding his bike around town but in spirit, he will always be with us. Ma will miss their Sundays together but knows that he is at peace and with mom now and suffers no more. We love you Kevin and will miss you.
Candy and Dan Wisnoski

Dear Dave, I read with sadness of the passing of your father. I remember speaking with him briefly at the polling site last November and hearing him heartily laugh out loud at my joke about what interesting dinner table conversation must take place at your house given that you & your brother, Kevin, are on opposite sides of the political aisle. You have my deepest sympathies. He apparently raised nice children. Louis Shkane

He is my brother and our friend and we will miss him until we see him again in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.
Dan & Natalie Gordon

I had the pleasure of knowing Kevin while he docked and stored his boat at our marina. He was a friendly and sincere man and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
