David Norwin Koon, 60, of Waterville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. A lifelong resident of New York, he was born November 4, 1949 in Syracuse, a son of the late James Koon and Frances Potter Koon Martin. He was a graduate of Liverpool High School, Potsdam State College and Syracuse University with a degree in Medical Technology. For the past five years, David has lived a wonderful and joyous life at the Schoolhouse Apartments in Waterville, of which he has made many friends. He was a lifelong Syracuse Orangemen fan, long before they became "the orange" and would have been ecstatic that they beat Georgetown. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Rodney Lowery of Madison and Sharon and Pastor Douglas Cowburn, II of North Las Vegas, NV; a son, Jacob Koon of Malone; four grandchildren, Nicole and Jackson Lowery and Brian and Zachary Cowburn; a sister, Kathy Jaffee of Santa Rosa, CA; his life long partner, Lois O'Brien of Waterville; and Lois's children, Norman, Frank, Edward and Kevin Bommarito. Relatives and friends are invited to a porch party to be held Friday at 4 PM in the fellowship hall of Southgate Ministries on Main St. in Waterville. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.

David Was a good father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many people. He was a big guy with a big heart. He only had two broken bones in his life. His little toe (which he never let me forget) and his leg when he got hit by a car. We don't know what happened to the car. It was never seen again. He's with his Mother and father and his grandparents now. They must have needed some one to listen to and to laugh with. Guess he's on vacation in the sky.
