Fred J. DiSimone, 94, of Utica, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 21, 1915, in Utica, the son of the late Tommaso and Maria Florenza DiSimone and was educated in Utica schools. On June 20, 1942, in Virginia, he married Thelma J. Larkin, a loving union of 60 years. She passed away November 7, 2002. For many years, Mr. DiSimone was employed in quality control at Bossart Manufacturing and was later employed as head custodian for the Utica Public School System, retiring in 1979. Mr. DiSimone was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and was a member and past master of ceremonies, trustee and orator of the Sons of Italy Lodge #2054. Fred was an avid New York Yankee's fan, whose favorite all time player was Joe DiMaggio. He is survived by a sister, Anna Sciortino of Utica; a brother, Salvatore Desimone of Utica; his nieces and nephews and their spouses, Rosalia DiSimone of Italy, Thomas and Ruth Desimone of Watertown, Thomas and Florence DeSimone of Utica, Maryann and James Corleto of New Hartford, Joseph and Joann DeSimone of TN and Dominick and Bernice Sciortino of TX, as well as nieces and nephews of the Larkin family in VA; several great nieces and great nephews; and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Russell DiSimone, Sam and Josephine DeSimone and Pauline Desimone; and a brother-in-law, Frank Sciortino. The funeral will be Monday morning at 9:15 from the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford and 10 from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday afternoon from 2-4 at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Lutheran Home, especially the Valley Crest Wing, for all their wonderful care and compassion.
