Frances M. Butrym, of Waterville, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009, with her family by her side. She was born May 17, 1926, in Utica, the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Wisniewski Mazur. She was a graduate of UFA and the Excelsior School of Business. On May 29, 1948, in Holy Trinity Church, Utica, she was united in marriage to Ralph Z. Butrym, a loving union of 52 years. He passed away September 30, 2004. Mrs. Butrym was employed with the Utica Psychiatric Center, the Cherry Valley Oil Co. and the Mohawk Valley Oil Co. She was later employed as a bookkeeper for the Harding Nursing Home and at the same time, founded the Merri-Rose Florist in Waterville, named after her two daughters. She was a parishioner of St. Barnard's Church, was a former president of the Clifford J. Fulmer American Legion Post #92 Auxiliary, was a former treasurer of the Mohawk Valley Kidney Society, was a former welfare officer for the Town of Marshall, was a proud sponsor for many years of the Merri-Rose Bush League in North Brookfield and was a former girl scout leader, were she touched many young girls lives. Frances was a devoted wife, mother, babci and cioci. She was well known for her thoughtfulness and kindness to others, her generosity and was very supportive of the Waterville community. She enjoyed traveling with her family, her camp in the 1000 Islands, winters in Florida, gardening and cooking. Her family was the center of her life and she thoroughly enjoyed following her three grandsons in sports, school and into their adult lives. Mrs. Butrym and was an avid sewer and was very proud of the First Communion dress she made for her daughter, Mary Katryn, that continues to be passed down through the generations. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Katryn Maine of North Brookfield and Rosemary and Daryl Broedel of Waterville; a sister, Irene Jaquays of Waterville; three grandsons, Craig Arthur Maine of North Brookfield, Jeffrey Francis and Lorie Broedel of Minoa and Kyle William-Ralph Maine of North Brookfield; a great grandson, Hunter Z. Steven Maine of Waterville; and several nieces, nephews and God children. She was predeceased by a sister, Sophie Mazur; two brothers, Stanley and Charles Mazur; her son-in-law, Steven Maine; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Jaquays; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Mazur; and her beloved canine companion, Tiny. The funeral will be Monday morning at 9:30 from the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville and 10 from St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday evening, 5-8. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Francis Chabot for his kindness and to the entire staff of the Presbyterian Home for Central, NY, especially the Elm Wing, for creating a delicate balance for her end of life journey.
