Mary (Manion) Boyd

Mary (Manion) Boyd of Ossining passed away Sunday February 15, 2009 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Mary was born in Utica, NY, on September 7, 1922, the daughter of Anastasia Merna Manion and Martin Manion of Waterville, NY. She was raised in Waterville and graduated from Waterville Central School in the Class of 1940. Mary received her B.S. degree from SUNY in Albany and her M.A. degree from N.Y. University. She did graduate work at Syracuse University, Salem State College, Michigan State University, and Rutgers University. On December 26, 1961, Mary married Thomas J. Boyd at St. Bernard's Church in Waterville. They have resided in Ossining since their marriage. Mrs. Boyd was a member of the faculty of the Croton-Harmon High School for 33 years until her retirement in 1980. She also taught at the Madison Central School, New Hartford Central School, and was an adjunct instructor at the Westchester Community College for many years. Mrs. Boyd was an active member of the Croton Teachers Association and the Westchester Business Education Association. Mrs. Boyd was predeceased by her brothers, Leo and Joseph; and her sister Betty. She is survived by her cousins, Edward of Springfield, VA and Frances Mayne of Waterville. She also leaves three nieces, one nephew and sisters-in-law, Catherine Manion of Waterville and Paula Manion of Lady Lake, Fl. Visiting hours will be held at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Pl., Ossining, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Visiting hours will be held in Waterville at the Kloster-Northrop-Bentz Funeral Home, 210 Main St., Waterville on Thursday from 5-7 PM with the Funeral Mass on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard's Church. A spring burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery.
