Mary M. (Kravec) Larney, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Masonic Care Community. She was born October 3, 1922, in White Plains, the daughter of the late Peter and Susie Hudak Kravec. Mary grew up on the family farm in Schuyler and was educated in Frankfort schools. At St. George's Episcopal Church, Utica, on December 15, 1945, at the conclusion of WW II, she married Vaughn L. Larney and together they started a family. In her 47 years of marriage, Mary raised eight children, with the first child Richard arriving in 1949 and her last child, Joan arriving in 1964. Vaughn was a dedicated tractor trailer driver and Mary a devoted housewife. They chose to raise their children in the upstate New York area. Upon early retirement, Mr. Larney from Hamilton Digital Control and Mrs. Larney from Mele Manufacturing, moved their family to Belleview, FL. They resided there for the next 20 years, until Vaughn's passing on October 6, 1993. In 1995, Mary returned to Utica, to be close to her family and friends. She resided at the Brook Apartments on Oneida St., until December of 2000, when she entered the Masonic Care Community, where she remained a resident for eight years until her passing. Mary is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn and Irving Hill of Utica and Joan Larney of FL; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Dolores Larney of FL, Gerald and Susan Larney of AL and William Larney of FL; seven grandchildren, Theresa and Richard Mathis of NC, David Larney and Stuart Larney of FL, Raymond and Joann Hill of Utica, Michael and Loree Larkin-Hill of Utica, Michael Larney of AL and Margaret Pendolf of Utica; 15 great grandchildren, Raymond, Jr. and Joseph Hill of Utica, Kayla, Alyssa and Michael Hill, Jr. of Whitesboro, Jessica, Glenn and Rachel Mathis of NC; Angela Larney of FL, Faith Deanna Cooper of FL, Adam Roser of Utica, Daniel Tournear of Utica, Meghan and John Pendolf of Utica and Austin Galindez of Utica; and several nieces and nephews, including, Peter and Maggie Kravec of Clayville, John and Mary Kravec of Schuyler, Michael and Retha Kravec of GA, Alice and Gregory Penree of Remsen and JEtta and Martin Cutler of MD. She was predeceased by three children, Joyce, James and Phillip Larney; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Steve and Anna Kravec, John and Anna Kravec and George Kravec; two nephews, Nicholas, Sr. and Stephen Kravec, Jr.; and two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Iola and Otis Sanders, Margaret and Pete Testa and Ivan Larney. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 pm at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford, with The Rev. James Jensen officiating. A calling hour will be held from 12-1, prior to the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the 4th floor staff of the Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center and the Westchester Wing of the Masonic Care Community, especially Judy Horace, CNA and devoted friend to Mary, for all their excellent care and compassion.
