Betty Ann Schachtler, 32, of Shanley Rd., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born December 10, 1975, in Hamilton, the daughter of Kenneth Hazard and the late Rose Pedersen Stephenson. Betty Ann attended Rome Free Academy High School and was a member of the schools athletic teams, where she held many records and accomplishments and received many awards. On July 29, 2006, at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, she married Eric T. (Rick) Schachtler. Betty Ann was a Phlebotomist by profession and was currently employed with Commercial Traveler's Insurance Company in Utica. She was also a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Betty Ann was a free spirit, a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially around the swimming pool. She is survived by her husband, Rick; four daughters, Emily, Gabrielle, Kennedy and Chelsea; her father, Kenneth Hazard of Waterville; two sisters, Christine Elliott of Waterville and Katie Mayne of Brookfield; a brother, Matthew Stephenson, US Air Force, Lackland Air Force Base, TX; paternal grandparents, Joanne and Stan Hughes of FL and Donald Hazard of Waterville; her mother and father-in-law, Kay and Kurt Schachtler of Waterville; and many, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Betty Ann was predeceased by her son, Elijah; and her maternal grandparents, Betty and Harold Pedersen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday evening from 5-8 at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. The family will also receive friends at their home, following the Mass.
