Johanna M. (Joanne) Pugliese, 89, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at home, with her loving family by her side. She was born March 1, 1926, in Utica, the daughter of the late James and Margaret Spiridilozzi Mariani. She was a graduate of Proctor High School, Class of 1944 and Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at St. Luke's Hospital and later at Children's Hospital in Utica. Later she was employed at the local Teamsters Union, from where she retired. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church and was a member of the Christ Child Society. Previously she was a parishioner of St Francis de Sales. Joanne's work was very important to her, however her life centered on her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Joanne enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her loved ones. Her memory will continue to inspire her family. They will remember her quiet, gentle ways and her selfless, giving spirit. She was a hardworking, virtuous, and loving mother who led by example. Surviving are four children, Mary Sue and Bill Eisenman of Utica, Anne and Tony Falchi of Sauquoit, Anthony and Jayne Pugliese of Marcellus and David and Donna Pugliese of Milton, GA; her daughter-in-law and her husband, JoAnne and Mark Fenton of LaFayette; ten grandchildren, William and Nicole Eisenman, Thomas and Santhi Eisenman, Anne and Dan Dyczka, Thomas Pugliese, Briana and Dominic Testo, Sarah Pugliese, Angela Pugliese, Rachel Pugliese, Adam and Aybree Pugliese and Benjamin Pugliese; six great grandchildren, Juliet Eisenman, Joanina Eisenman, Sebastian Dyczka, Gianna Ficarra, Dominic Testo and Charlie Pugliese; her sister, Rosemary Assaro of Utica; her brother, Thomas and Marilyn Mariani of Frankfort; her sister-in-law, Beverly Zdeb of Utica; and several special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Thomas Pugliese; her sister, Catherine Marchio; and her brother, Andrew Mariani. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 am at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Utica. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all Joanne's physicians and caregivers for their wonderful care and compassion.
