Walter F. "Pete" Greer Utica Walter F. "Pete" Greer, 80, of Utica passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with his family by his side. Pete was born on May 5, 1934 in Utica, the son of Harold and Helen (Murphy) Greer. He was a graduate of UFA. Pete served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. While stationed in San Diego he met the love of his life and on October 8, 1955 Pete married fellow Marine, Winona Wong, a blessed union of 59 years. He retired from the Railroad Police at Conrail after 35 years of service. Pete was a member of New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Winona; children, Mark (Laura) Greer, HI, Daniel (Suzanne) Greer, GA, Carleen (Scott) Meyers, Taberg, Harold (Leslie) Greer, GA, Don (Kathleen) Greer, NC and Gregory (Cara) Greer, Utica; 15 grandchildren; brother, Michael (Sumiko) Greer, CA; sister, (Peggy (Henry) Cockerham, TX; sister-in-law, Sally Greer ; many nieces and nephews as well as a very close neighbor who he thought of as a son, Jeff Franz. He was predeceased by sisters, Helen and Bernadette and brothers, Harold, Earl and Joseph. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Monday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. from Historic Old St. John's Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. Pete's family would like to thank Dr. Alicia Detraglia, Dr. Thomas Ryan, Dr. Greg Orlando, Dr. Eric Yoss, Dr. Cynthia Parlato and the staff at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, especially the Cancer Center and CCU for the care and compassion shown to him over the past 30 years. To my former neighbor Winnie, I am so sorry to see that you have lost Pete. I have thought of both of you many times and have never forgotten two great next door neighbors. I can still see Pete's delightful grin. He was a good man and the world was a better place with him in it. My thoughts are with you.
