John D. Lloyd, 15, of New Hartford, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. He was born in New Hartford on August 20,1998, the son of David and Susan (Lewis) Lloyd. He was a student at New Hartford High School, where he was a dedicated football player and track team member. At his church, John participated in the Alter Boy Society and the MYO. John was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, and had just recently met the team after receiving his wish from the Make a Wish Foundation. He lived and breathed football, knowing more stats then anyone he came across. An avid deer and turkey hunter, John had success whenever he hunted. John was a loving young man, who had a way of touching everyone's heart. He was known for his huge hands, mighty grip, huge appetite and love of food, especially moms. During his illness, John stayed close to his dear friends by spending countless hours playing his Xbox; his giggle was contagious. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, David; sister, Jackie; Sito, Maureen Lewis; grandma, Marie Lloyd; uncles and aunts, Mike (Cheryl) Lewis, Roseanne (Vinny) Ciaccia, Luke (Anne) Lewis, Mark (Mireille) Lewis, Dan (Nina) Lewis, Pascale Lewis, Jeff (Mary Pat) Lloyd, Tom (Terry) Lloyd and Kathy Lloyd; and his many special cousins and close friends. He was predeceased and kept close to his heart, his godfather Joe Lewis II; and loving grandfathers, Jido Joseph Lewis and Pop Doug Lloyd. The family wishes to thank all the special staff at the Golisano Upstate Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation & Grantors, and the Buffalo Bills Organization. The Divine liturgy will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 9 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger Street, Utica. Following the mass, the family will have a receiving line. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.

We are all so sorry to hear that John's fight did not end up the way we all would have wanted. He had the best parent anyone could ask for and loving siblings. Keep his memories in your heart and he will never be far away. How I wish there was something I could do to help. God Bless.
My heart aches for your loss. John was such a fine young man and a pleasure to know. I enjoyed watching him grow on the football field and his passion for the game will live on in his teammates. Rest In Peace Big John, know that every time your Spartans step onto the field, you will be there with them. God Bless.
Sue, David, Jackie, David and the Lloyd family..<3 I am speechless. Johnny was an amazing young man with a heart of gold, and a smile that would light up the darkest corners. Know he will always be in my heart, and missed greatly. Johnny left his footprint upon this Earth ,a footprint that has touched the hearts of many.
I had the pleasure of first meeting "Big John" as I called him, when he was in 6th grade. I coached a Basketball Team in the NH Intramural league with my son and Big John was on my team. We won the championship that year, mostly due to John being a force to be reckoned with under the net!! I remember that game like it was yesterday, the game was at the High School Gym and I remember how Big John and the rest of the team were so excited that we won!
Luckily,I got to see more of John and met his Mom,Dad,Brother and Sister and his Uncle Jeff at the Aud over the years.
Every time I saw John he would shake my hand and look me in the eye, (as time went on I had to look up to meet his eyes!!) always with a smile and we talked about football and his sis Jackie and I would kid him about his appetite.
He was one of the kids that stood out among all the kids I have met and coached over the years. I always said to myself, Jeez this kid is something! Always a smile, always polite, respectful, positive and a hard worker! His sister and brother the same!! Not by accident but because of their Mom and Dad!
This is all so difficult to understand but what I have come to realize is that life is about making a positive impact on others while your here and from the time you arrive to the time you leave you have made the world just a little bit of better place.
Big John Lloyd accomplished his mission!!
To Sue and Family: I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. John's legacy is one one of love and happiness. May he rest in peace.
