Donna M. Mitchell, 60, a recent resident of the St. Luke's Home and a former resident of the Wedgewood Apartments in New Hartford, entered into eternal life at the Home on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, with her loving family at her bedside. She was born and educated in Utica and was the daughter of the late Isabel Alice Williams. At one time, she was married to Lamar Mitchell and, from that union, she had four children. Donna was employed by the State of New York as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. Donna was a very spiritual, loving and kind person who, prior to her illness, devoted her time and energy promoting the will of Jesus and His Blessed Mother through prayer and deeds. She volunteered at the soup kitchen at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church from its inception, visited the sick in various nursing homes, volunteered many hours to Perpetual Adoration at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, was a greeter at St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, was an active member of the Legion of Mary and was known to hand out hundreds of religious bracelets that honored Jesus and His Blessed Mother. In return for her sincere and loving devotion to Jesus, His Mother and all the saints, she was blessed with the unconditional love, compassion and spirituality of the Pastor and parish community of St. Mary of Mount Carmel /Blessed Sacrament Church. While cancer was invading her body, she found comfort and great support at the Thursday morning prayer group at Mt. Carmel , and she was extremely grateful to the many parishioners and friends who helped her financially and spiritually. Donna knew the love, friendship and compassion of Emily Olney, Darlene King, Carol Wendler, Sister Mary Nicholas Amodio and Sister Margret Wood, Dennis and Helen Toczala, Philomena Amodio, Mike Dziura, Patrick Ferrara, Kay De Santis, Lucretia Carlo, Jack Rielly, Jane Heiland, Rosemary Chiffy, the Thursday morning prayer group, and her beloved Pastor, Father Jim Cesta. Donna is survived by two daughters, Tara and Robert Rios, and Michelle Mitchell, and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lamar and Zulma Mitchell, Jr., and Andrew Mitchell, all of Utica; three brothers, William Williams and Georgiana, Utica, Rick Williams and Cindy, Bridgeport, and Frank and Linda Williams, Utica; seven grandchildren, who she loved with her heart and soul, Siena, Alyssa and Isabella Rios, Aolanni and Elijah Mitchell, and Adam Mitchell and Aliyah Thompson, and one great-grandchild, Gianna Rios, all of Utica; and a special cousin, Maggie Ward. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Donna's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel /Blessed Sacrament Church, celebrated by Father Jim Cesta. All are invited. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford. The family is very grateful to the entire staff of the St. Luke's Home for the wonderful care given to Donna.
