William F. (Bill) DeWitt, 81, of Utica, passed into the Hands of God on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Sitrin Health Care Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born August 14, 1929, in Canton, PA, the son of the late John Mitchell and Isadore Robinson DeWitt. He was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1947 in Troy, PA and attended business school in Binghamton. On December 30, 1968, in Hammonton, NJ he married Rita Bouboulis Burnham. The DeWitt's lived in Deansboro, Waterville and New Hartford, prior to moving to Utica in 1986. For 42 years, Mr DeWitt was the Production Planner at Mohawk Containers (Jefferson-Smurfit) in New Hartford, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Messiah United Church of Christ in Washington Mills and the Waterville Rotary Club. Mr. DeWitt served on the board of Herritage Farms in Munnsville, the Canine Working Companions in Sangerfield, the Resource Center for Independent Living in Utica and the Polio Support Club in Utica. Bill participated in wheelchair curling and wheelchair basketball through the Sitrin Stars Program and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Rita; three daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl and John Rienzo of Jamestown, RI, Leta Laukaitis of Cedar Lake and Sally Buck of LaGrange, NC; six grandchildren, Alex and Nico Rienzo, Jeanine and Jay Laukaitis and Christopher and Katelyn Buck; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Kutney; and a brother, John Robinson (Bob) DeWitt. The funeral will be Thursday evening at 6 o'clock at the Messiah United Church of Christ, Oneida St., Washington Mills, with Pastor Doug Satterlee officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Waterville. A calling hour will be held at the church on Thursday from 5-6 PM, prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Sitrin Health Care center for thr care they extended to him over the years. Arrangements are with the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, Waterville.
