William (Knute) Traut, Jr.

William (Knute) Traut, Jr., 81, formerly of Center Terrace, New Hartford, went to be with his wife on Saturday, June 12, 2010 from The Pines at Utica. He was born August 27, 1928, in Remsen, the son of the late William, Sr. and Zola Johnson Traut and was a graduate of UFA. Knute was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. On May 8, 1954, in New York Mills, he married Elizabeth Stressel. She passed away on September 11, 2001. For many years, Mr. Traut was employed with New York Telephone Co. in Utica, retiring in 1985. Knute was a former member of the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376 and was a former shop steward for the C.W.A. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Maclaughlin of the Town of Lee and Kathleen and Richard Falanga of Liverpool; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jim Holmes of Sylvan Beach; four grandchildren, Jim, Taylor, Christopher and Robert; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Merwin Traut. The funeral will be Monday at 11:30 am at the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford, with Rev. Ed Townsend officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. A calling hour will be held Monday from 10:30 - 11:30, prior to the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of The Pines at Utica (formerly Eden Park Nursing Home), for all their wonderful care and compassion.
